The ESA editorial coordinator provides direct support to ESA’s authors, editors, reviewers, and ESA staff. This role monitors the review process, creates journal reports, and participates in projects to improve the publications program and advance entomology. The editorial coordinator answers questions and requests about journal policies, guidelines, the publication process, journal software, and other queries related to the publications program. Additionally, this position supports the ESA publications office (and, as needed, the rest of the ESA staff) through administrative tasks to keep the portfolio operations organized, efficient, on time, and the organization running smoothly,
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In performance of this job, tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Processing and tracking routine journal items, such as waiver requests, cover image submissions, new editor and reviewer set up, and other tasks as needed by the portfolio.
Producing regular reports on journal data for ESA’s publications program.
Providing customer service and technical support to authors, editors, and reviewers who have questions about the manuscript submission system, peer review process, or journal policies.
Providing administrative support to the committees that oversee ESA’s scholarly publications, including scheduling meetings and preparing minutes and action items.
Coordinating the editing and production process of the magazine American Entomologist
Performing quality assurance checks on manuscripts.
Assisting in coordinating calls for papers and special collections.
Assisting ESA in-house publications staff with their projects and portfolio initiatives.
Working with editors and reviewers to keep the peer-review process efficient and high-quality, including tracking and following up on overdue papers.
Attending ESA’s annual meeting and branch meetings as assigned and providing support to journal meetings or other areas where needed.
Occasional general ESA administrative support, including periodic mail sorting, monitoring of general inboxes, and support for special projects.
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: The position requires a bachelor’s degree; experience working in a publishing environment is preferred. The following additional qualifications are sought:
Highly organized with the ability to manage and prioritize many different tasks and deadlines simultaneously;
Excellent communication and customer service;
Team-oriented and willing to contribute where needed;
Comfortable with new software and systems; proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and previous experience with journal submission software a plus

SALARY
The salary range for this position is $50,000-$58,000, depending on experience.
