Description: Appointee will coordinate, conduct and publish original research to support growers with management of economically important insect pests using entomopathogenic nematodes and fungi. Projects include various aspects of invertebrate pathology and microbial control such as production and formulation technology, genetics, and ecology. Focus crops will include pecan and peach as well as others. One specified project will be to elucidate and integrate ecological knowledge of a whitefly host and newly discovered entomopathogenic fungus to formulate and test novel pest management strategies. Research will include laboratory, greenhouse, plot and on-farm trials.
Location: Joint appointment between theDepartment of Entomology, University of Georgia-Tifton Campus and the USDA-ARS Fruit and Tree Nut Research Laboratory, Byron, GA. The applicant will be based at Byron, located 15 miles south of Macon on I-75.
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Entomology or closely related field with a strong background of relevant course work, a record of peer reviewed scholarly achievement, and excellent communication skills.
The Department of Entomology at UGA offers a stimulating, multi-campus intellectual environment and has an excellent reputation in teaching, research and extension. The USDA-ARS Southeastern Fruit and Tree Nut Research Laboratory is located on a 1,200 acre research farm. Represented disciplines are plant breeding, tree physiology, horticulture, plant pathology, entomology, and nematology. Research programs support the USDA-ARS national programs in Crop and Commodity Pest Biology, Control, and Quarantine, Integrated Crop Production and Protection Systems, Plant Diseases, and Methyl Bromide Alternatives.
