PhD position in Drosophila sensory neuroscience lab
A fully funded PhD position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Karen Menuz at the University of Connecticut. The position would start in the Fall 2022 semester. Our research focuses on the mechanisms supporting robust responses to odors in the insect olfactory system, with the long term goal of identifying targets for novel insect repellents. Currently, we are interested in how the molecular and cellular environment surrounding olfactory neurons influences their activity, and ultimately odor-driven behaviors. We use the genetic model organism Drosophila melanogaster in order to identify conserved molecules and mechanisms that likely have a similar role in insect vectors of human disease. Our multi-disciplinary approach combines genetic manipulations, in vivo
