Position Overview: Two postdoctoral research fellowships are immediately available to conduct research on insect genomics and gene editing technologies. These positions will be recruited through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education and University of California Riverside. Research will be conducted at the San Joaquin Valley Agricultural Sciences Center, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), USDA facility in Parlier, California (Fresno Area).
Research Focus: The successful candidates will lead research in insect gene editing, developing novel approaches to managing major pests affecting high-value tree nut crops. This research program leverages state-of-the-art gene editing technologies, including CRISPR-Cas9 to:
Characterize essential genes involved in reproduction, development, and survival
Investigate sex determination pathways for sterile insect technique
Investigate gene drive systems for population-level genetic modifications
Characterize pesticide resistance mechanisms and counter-resistance strategies
Develop biomarkers for enhanced pest monitoring and control strategies
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Entomology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or closely related field
Strong background in insect molecular biology
Experience with gene editing technologies highly preferred
Expertise in insect embryo microinjection, transformation, mutagenesis, and functional genomics
Proficiency in bioinformatics and genomic data analysis
