The Tong Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences is seeking an Associate Research Scientist. The incumbent should have a full set of experimental skills with structural biology, including protein expression and purification in bacteria and insect cells, protein crystallization, X-ray diffraction data collection and processing, crystal structure determination and refinement, cryo-EM grid preparation and screening, cryo-EM data analysis, cryo-EM model building and refinement, structural analyses and mutagenesis studies.
The responsibilities of this position will include:
· Cryo-EM studies of proteins involved in RNA decapping and possibly other biochemical processes.
· Crystallographic studies of proteins involved in RNA decapping in plants and other organisms.
· Detailed analyses of the structures that are obtained, and design mutagenesis experiments to assess the structural observations.
· Working closely with collaborators, within Columbia and also with other institutions, on multi-faceted projects.
· Preparing reports for grant submissions and drafting manuscripts detailing the results of studies for publication.
· Mentoring PhD students and colleagues on related projects.
Minimum Degree Required: PhD
