The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences seeks a Research Technician to join our team. The Research Technician will work in studying cityRNAs and tinyRNAs, while also investigating microRNAs and Argonaute proteins in humans. Specifically, they will be involved in research aims to elucidate the physiological roles of these small non-coding RNAs, uncover their correlations with diseases such as neurodevelopmental disorders and cancers, and apply our RNA technologies for therapeutic purposes. They will learn about protein overproduction in insect and E. coli cells, protein purification using different columns with the AKTA system. This individual will help assist in the construction design and cloning expression of specific genes in human cell lines and sample preparation for cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography. They will also help with general lab maintenance and record keeping, including receiving and storing reagents and items, maintaining instruments, and organizing lab space and samples. Additionally, they will assist in conducting and designing standard research protocols, recording procedures, training lab members, writing scientific manuscripts, and maintaining laboratory routine protocols. Training in specific techniques will be provided.
Qualifications:
Required:Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry or related discipline with 1 year of relevant experience.
The pay range for this job profile is $15.70 to $20.67 per hour. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.This term appointment may be extended annually up to max of 3 years based upon performance.
