The Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences (PES) at Clemson University is seeking applicants for the Gregory Distinguished Endowed Professorship in Urban Entomology, a 12-month, tenure-track position at the level of Associate Professor. The appointment will include responsibilities in Extension (60%) and research (40%) and will be located on the Clemson University main campus in Clemson, SC. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Extension, research, and educational programs of PES. Clemson University is recognized as a top public university by U.S. News and World Report. The PES department is a dynamic unit within the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Life Sciences (CAFLS), with a strong commitment and contribution to the Land-Grant mission of Clemson University. The PES department encompasses 59 faculty with various specializations, including, but not limited to, entomology, plant pathology, horticulture, soil science, weed science, and agronomy. It houses 150 undergraduates across three programs (Horticulture, Plant and Environmental Sciences, and Turfgrass) and 112 graduate students in M.S. and Ph.D. granting programs (Entomology and Plant and Environmental Sciences). The faculty and graduate student populations are diverse and cosmopolitan, involved in projects across the state, region and the globe. The successful candidate will assume leadership of Clemson University’s Extension, outreach, and community engagement in the management of household and structural pests and will be expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized, externally funded program that addresses the needs of stakeholders regarding pests in urban and built environments. Responsibilities will include the development of a state-wide, science-based, practical program for integrated and sustainable pest management and training programs for pest management professionals. The incumbent will be expected to work with a diverse group, including other CAFLS and university faculty members, the pest management industry, Extension and state educators, pesticide manufacturers and formulators, state and federal regulators and the general public. The successful candidate will participate actively in undergraduate and graduate education by chairing and serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis, dissertation, and undergraduate research, and authoring Extension and research publications with students. Faculty are encouraged to participate in professional development activities related to teaching and advising and may teach courses and seminars.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in Entomology or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, collegiality, basic knowledge of laws and regulations related to the pesticides and pest management industry, and procurement of extramural funding. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system.
