Postdoctoral Associate
The Kroon Campos Lab (https://www.krooncamposlab.com/) at Cornell University seeks a
highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher. Our lab focuses on understanding the
mechanisms driving the emergence and re-emergence of single-stranded positive-sense RNA
(ssRNA+) and zoonotic mosquito-borne viruses, including but not limited to alphaviruses and
flaviviruses. We study virus-host interactions with the arthropod and vertebrate hosts at the
molecular level. We aim to advance science and benefit society by conducting rigorous virology
research, disseminating our findings, and training the next generation of scientists, which will
benefit human and animal health.
The successful candidate is expected to uphold the highest ethical standards; value and respect
each person with fairness and dignity; celebrate diversity and inclusivity; and foster a
supportive, collaborative, and collegial environment. The candidate will be expected to work
independently in leading scientific data exploration, design of new studies, manuscript
preparation, generate data to support grant and postdoctoral fellowship applications, work to
strengthen collaborations, as well as present data internally and in conferences. Dr. Kroon
Campos will support the successful candidate's career progression and independent research
that falls within the scope of the lab.
Essential qualifications:
* A Ph.D. in virology, molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, entomology, or a closely
related field;
* Demonstrated expertise and publication record in virology research, particularly involving
ssRNA+ viruses;
* Knowledge in data analyses and statistics;
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively;
Preferred qualifications:
* Experience with plaque assays, PRNT, and other virological assays under BSL-2 and BSL-3
conditions;
* Proficient in molecular biology, microbiology, and other techniques such as PCR, RT-qPCR,
ddPCR, cloning, IPs, WBs, IFA, microscopy, ELISA, flow cytometry, RNA analysis and others;
* Experience rearing mosquitoes;
* Experience with in vivo studies of infection and dissection of mosquitoes at BSL-2/3;
* Experience with in vivo infection handling and experimentation using mouse models at BSL-
2/3;
* Experience working with different types of high throughput sequencing datasets, such as
RNAseq, RIBOseq, MeRIPseq, direct RNA sequencing.
