Mississippi State University is seeking an entomologist to develop an Extension and applied research program that has a meaningful impact on commercial fruit, nut, and vegetable producers and homeowners in Mississippi and the midsouth. This is a twelve-month, tenure track position with a 100 % Extension appointment. The position will be located at the Truck Crops Branch Experiment Station (TCBES) in Crystal Springs, MS and will report administratively to the Central MS Research and Extension Center (CMREC) https://www.mafes.msstate.edu/branches/centralhome.php with an academic home in the Department of Agricultural Science and Plant Protection (ASPP) ) https://www.agscipp.msstate.edu.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with other research and Extension faculty at the TCBES and CMREC. The station has a rich history of meaningful research and Extension efforts related to edible food crops and ornamentals. The incumbent is expected to collaborate with other faculty in the Division of Agriculture, Forestry, and Veterinary Medicine (DAFVM) as appropriate. Numerous collaborative research and Extension opportunities exist with scientists at other Research and Extension Centers as well as other MAFES research locations throughout the state.

Ph.D. in entomology or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher learning. Individuals who are ABD (all but dissertation) will be considered.

The Central Mississippi Research and Extension Center (CMREC), one of four Research and Extension Centers in the Mississippi State University (MSU) system, is in Raymond, Mississippi. The CMREC oversees a team of state specialists from the MSU Extension Service and the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES). The center's mission is to develop research and Extension programs tailored to the needs of the state's central and southern regions, aiming to improve the economic well-being of agricultural producers, industries, and rural and urban citizens.
The MAFES Truck Crops Branch Experiment Station is administratively associated with the CMREC and is in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, approximately 30 minutes from the CMREC and Jackson, Mississippi. The Truck Crops Station, established in 1938, encompasses 175 acres, making it the largest horticulture research facility in the MSU system. Researchers at the Truck Crops Station focus on conducting variety trials and evaluating the performance of vegetables, ornamental crops, fruits, and pecans under various field, greenhouse, and high tunnel conditions. The station includes two laboratories, a shop, three gree...nhouses, and six high tunnels, including three dedicated to organic fruits and vegetables. The station's research and Extension programs are designed to directly benefit the state's vegetable, ornamental, fruit, and nut industries.
