This is a grant-funded position subject to continued funding.

The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology is searching to fill a full time regular position for a Research Technician II. This position reports to Dr. Sebe Brown in Jackson, TN at the West Tennessee Research and Education Center. This position provides skilled technical assistance for applied research and extension programs related to integrated pest management in field crops for the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology. Position collects, interprets, and documents field trial data for external stakeholders, TN Soybean Board, Cotton Inc, and the Southern Region IPM program. Specifically this position supports the testing of insecticides and genetic traits, monitors insect populations and resistance levels, and assists and extension educational programs.

Responsibilities Include:

Plot maintenance

* Operation and maintenance of vehicles, planters, plot sprayers, harvesting equipment, etc.

* Mixing and applications of pesticides based on establish trail protocol

* Records activities of field in work plans for future reference

Data collection, entry, and analyses

* Records maintains accurate data of insects and disease in field trials including efficacy and economic benefits of various arthropod pest management technologies and strategies. Evaluates and recommends data concerning insecticide resistance levels for important cotton pests and the intensity and timing of bollworm, tobacco budworm, and beet armyworm moth flights. Evaluates the potential exposure of pollinators to neonicotinoid insecticides used as seed and foliar applications.

* Use of appropriate software to provide statistical analysis of field data

* Develops summary reports for industry stakeholders and faculty

* Supervision and training of temporary employees

* Support of educational programs by speaking to and explaining various insects problems found in row crops to industry and agents
