The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine (UAB Heersink SOM) is currently seeking an energetic and innovative leader to serve as the Director of the Division of Allergy and Immunology. The Division Director is responsible for the comprehensive leadership and management of the Division's activities and for advancing UAB's and Children's of Alabama's excellence in clinical care, research, advocacy, and education.
This opportunity is for full-time, regular, twelve-month faculty position with corresponding administrative responsibilities within the division. Faculty rank and tenure is open and commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position incorporates clinical, interdisciplinary teaching, community activities, and may include research. Applicants must have an MD or DO and be BC/BE in a relevant discipline and leadership experience in an academic medicine setting. MD/PhD candidates are encouraged to apply.
The Division of Pediatric Allergy serves to provide expertise in clinical care, education, research, and service for both the University Health System and Children's of Alabama (COA). The Division specializes in the treatment of patients with IgE and non-IgE mediated diseases including asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, food allergy, urticaria, angioedema, stinging insect and drug allergy. Division clinical immunologists diagnose and treat children with primary immune deficiencies including Severe Combined Immune Deficiency (SCID), primary antibody, phagocyte and complement deficiencies. Faculty research interests include studies related to the diagnosis and management of drug and food allergy and the role of chronic infection, particularly with mycoplasma infection. Other research interests include the pathophysiology of asthma and allergic diseases as well as primary immune deficiencies and autoimmunity.
