Assistant Professor of Nematology

Position description:
The University of California (UC) Riverside invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Plant Nematology to begin July 1, 2024. The position is an academic year (9-month) appointment in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences and the Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) (http://cnas.ucr.edu/about/aes/). The position is a 60% Organized Research and 40% Instruction appointment and will be housed at UC Riverside's main campus. Appointment level and salary are commensurate with experience. The successful candidate is expected to establish an internationally recognized, externally funded research program, focused on plant resistance and crop breeding for resistance to nematodes. Research should use modern experimental approaches in genomics and functional genetics and may include germplasm selection and identification of marker/haplotype associations. A reasonable salary estimate for this position is $74,600 to $97,200; other components of pay are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.
The selected applicant will be well-positioned to collaborate with UC and other institutions' programs for developing elite crop varieties with nematode resistance. Target nematodes should include root-knot nematodes, the most economically important nematode plant parasites worldwide. The appointee is expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and participate in campus service and outreach relevant to the California Agricultural Experiment Station https://cnas.ucr.edu/resources/agricultural-experiment-station.
Basic qualifications (required at time of application): A PhD in plant pathology, nematology, entomology, plant biology or a closely related field is required
Additional qualifications (required at time of start date): Expertise in plant-nematode or plant-pathogen/pest interactions is desirable.
Preferred qualifications: Experience as postdoctoral researcher is desirable.
