Bioengineering of Olfactory Sensory Systems (B.O.S.S.) laboratory led by Dr. Debajit Saha is looking for a Research Technologist to help with the research projects and administrative work. Dr. Saha’s team focuses on developing olfactory neuron-based volatile chemical sensors, investigates learning and memory rules in insect olfaction using experimental neuroscience techniques, and explores neural codes of social learning in the honeybee brain. Job duties include, but are not limited to, assisting in coordinating research operations; maintaining insect colonies; Performing odorant-evoked neural recordings from insects’ brains; performing behavioral experiments on insects; lab safety maintenance and ensuring compliance; working with venders, placing orders and maintain lab inventor.
This is an off dated position funded for one year from the date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic research techniques in the specific or related field; word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The job may require the appropriate pesticide applicator's registration/certification and/or experience working with potentially dangerous research animals.
Desired Qualifications
A background/expertise in entomology/neuroscience, strong communication and strong organizational skills.
