We are seeking 2 technicians to assist in a graduate research project investigating the interactions between local wildlife management practices, white-tailed deer populations, and vegetative communities in Massachusetts and New York. The primary fieldwork will consist of performing vegetation surveys and maintaining an extensive trail camera network. Additional duties will include classifying trail camera photos. The field portion of this position will start in mid-May and continue until mid-August. Housing will be provided while in the field, with the possibility for remote work (image classification) to continue following the field season.

• 15% Prepares lab and/or field test materials and samples according to established research requirements and specifications. Performs lab or field tests.
• 10% Inspects and maintains equipment, supplies, inventory, and facility spaces
• 60% Collects data and monitors test results according to established research requirements and specifications
• 5% May assist with literature reviews and/or report writing
• 10% Reviews data to summarize results for presentations or reporting

Applicants who are enrolled in or have completed a Bachelor's degree in biology, wildlife management, natural resources, or a related field

- Applicants must become an approved UW-Madison driver through UW-Madison's driver authorization process. This requires meeting established driver authorization criteria listed at: https://businessservices.wisc.edu/managing-risk/driver-authorization-and-insurance/driver-authorization/
- Additionally, applicants must be able to collect detailed data in uncomfortable conditions (e.g., biting insects, poison ivy, hot and humid conditions).
- Applicants should be capable of working effectively in small groups, and interacting with members of the public and stakeholder groups.
- Ideally, candidates would have experience working with vegetation of the northeastern US, however, plant ID skills are not required and can be learned on the job.

This is a full-time (40 hours/week), temporary position. The schedule will be variable and dependent on weather conditions

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Terminal appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended based on need and/or funding.

Minimum $15.00 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications

Physical demands of this position require hiking on and off trail while carrying field equipment greater than/equal to 25 lbs.
