Located in Birmingham, Alabama, Inverness Country Club is an 18-hole private Club with over 800 members. This privately-owned Club has been in existence since 1973 and next year we will celebrate the Club’s 50^th Anniversary. Inverness Country Club plays 20,000 rounds of golf each year and is a championship golf course with Mini-verde Bermuda Greens and Bermuda Fairways. The golf course was completely renovated in 2006, including new irrigation, greens built to USGA specifications, new drainage, new cart paths, etc. In the fall of 2022, all bunkers on the golf course and practice facility were completely renovated with capillary concrete.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Position: Golf Course Superintendent

Supervises: Golf Course Operations Staff

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Oversee the private 18-hole championship golf course and practice facilities.
• Maintain 174-acre property, which includes the Clubhouse, Pool Complex, and Tennis Facility.
• Schedule activities staying within budget while maintaining a high quality of playing surface and aesthetics.
• Maintain a strong system of policies and procedures.
• Create an efficient team and efficient maintenance practices to improve playing conditions and work flow.   
• Oversee Mechanic and Maintenance Fleet.
• Identify turf disease and insects.
• Ability to analyze and solve problems.
• Efficient at handling multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision.
• Daily coordination with Director of Golf on course conditions and playability.
• Must be a good listener and an effective communicator.
• Communicates to the membership through a quarterly newsletter.
• Must be a person who can maintain long-term goals while rising to the challenge of the everyday maintenance of the golf course.
• Must be a focused individual with an eye for detail, possessing an ability to work through the staff to achieve the set goals and operational standards.
• Reviews all invoices and payroll for accuracy.
• Highly motivated individual with a desire to succeed.
• Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
• Ability to work without supervision and have good member relation skills.
• Maintain records of schedules, equipment maintenance and chemical applications to the golf course.
• Can project a positive self-image and professionalism.
• Drug-free environment.
• Performs any other duties as required or assigned.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, skills, and traits:

• Minimum of a two-year Turf Grass Management degree (four-year preferred).
• Must have an Alabama Pesticide License or the ability to obtain one quickly.
• Proven track record in turf management on ultradwarf Bermuda greens (Mini-verde experience is a plus).
• Knowledge of automated irrigation systems.
• Five years of golf course maintenance or related experience that includes supervisory experience.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• Salary range: $77,000 - $82,000
