Summary of Position: The successful candidate will join a diverse, dynamic, and accelerating research team investigating the biochemistry, biophysics, and physiology of devastating muscle diseases.
The general duties of this position include those required of all research scientists including general laboratory maintenance; maintaining laboratory stock inventory; ordering laboratory consumables; record keeping; and maintenance of all laboratory items including disposables, chemicals/reagents, recombinant protein stocks, DNA stocks, antibody stocks, laboratory equipment etc.
The specific scientific duties unique to this position include, molecular cloning and the generation and maintenance of DNA plasmids, recombinant protein expression in bacteria, insect and mammalian cell lines, protein purification, and protein characterization utilizing a range of biochemical and biophysical assays.
75% Recombinant Protein Expression, Purification and Characterization Molecular cloning, PCR site-directed mutagenesis, cell culture, chromatography, SDS-PAGE, Western Blotting
25% - Laboratory Maintenance: Ordering supplies and record keeping, maintenance of lab equipment, undergraduate training/supervision.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology or related field required and 1 year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience to equal five years.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in molecular cloning, PCR site-directed mutagenesis, chromatography, SDS-PAGE, Western Blotting. The ability to work independently, maintain accurate, detailed and well-organized laboratory records.
