The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville invites applications to fill a 12-month, tenure-track faculty position (80% research, 20% teaching) with an emphasis on forest health, working on insect and/or disease problems impacting forest landscapes.

The successful candidate will develop an active, extramurally funded research program focusing on fundamental and applied approaches to understanding pest biology and health management in forest systems. Forests cover over 57% of the total land area of Arkansas. Forest landscapes are critical in the state for their substantial economic impact, making contributions to tourism, wildlife conservation, carbon capture, and wood-product industries.  Preferred areas of research specialization for this position could include, but are not limited to, invasive pests, disease vectors, landscape ecology, chemical ecology, climate change adaptation, or population biology. The candidate will utilize applied or translational approaches to address interests in the state. Technical tools utilized could include methods of arthropod or pathogen sampling, remote sensing, genomics, or biochemistry. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in grantsmanship, report research in peer-reviewed publications, and present research at national and regional meetings. The incumbent will teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including a course in forest health and others in their areas of expertise. They will cooperate with researchers at the Arkansas Forest Resources Center at the University of Arkansas – Monticello. The candidate will mentor graduate students, provide service to the department, university, and state as appropriate for their expertise, and collaborate effectively with research and extension faculty, and colleagues in related disciplines.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. or postdoctoral experience in entomology, plant pathology, forest ecology or related discipline is required. Strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to conduct independent and collaborative research are required. Preferred applicants will have strengths in field ecology and an understanding of the biology of disease vectors and/or introduced pests. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated ability to work effectively across disciplines. The position is located at the University of Arkansas main campus in Fayetteville.
