About USDA-ARS
The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the principal in-house research agency of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). ARS is charged with extending the nation's scientific knowledge and solving agricultural problems through its four national program areas: nutrition, food safety and quality; animal production and protection; natural resources and sustainable agricultural systems; and crop production and protection. ARS conducts scientific research for the general public of the USA. Their main focus is on research to develop solutions to agricultural problems and provide information access and dissemination to ensure high quality, safe food and other agricultural products, assess the nutritional needs of the general public, sustain a competitive agricultural economy, enhance the natural resource base and the environment, and provide economic opportunities to rural citizens, communities, and society as a whole. The USDA is an equal opportunity employer and provider.The advertised position is based at the research laboratories of the Temperate Tree Fruit and Vegetable Research Unit (TTFVRU), in Yakima County at Wapato Washington. The mission of the TTFVRU is to impr...ove basic and applied information needed for the development of safe and environmentally sustainable methods for management of arthropod pests and plant pathogens of temperate tree fruits and vegetables, and to develop new potato varieties with improved pest and disease resistance, quality, and enhanced phytonutrient content. The TTFVRU has approximately 35-40 employees, with a diversity of laboratories that include focus on genetics/molecular biology, biological control, chemical ecology and entomology.
