Description

The Parker Lab in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Tennessee (www.ben-parker.org) is seeking a post-doctoral research associate. This is a full-time position. The researcher will use molecular, genomic, and experimental techniques to study host-microbe interactions. The Parker lab uses an insect model system (aphids) and is particularly interested in mechanistic and evolutionary genetic questions. Projects within this area are flexible, and could include investigating the molecular mechanisms hosts use to regulate their beneficial bacterial and viral symbionts, the population genomics of fungal entomopathogens, or the evolutionary ecology of aphid-associated microbes in natural populations.

Initial appointment is for 1 year with funding available to extend up to 3 years. We would also be supportive of efforts by the postdoc to secure independent funding through NSF PRFB, USDA NIFA, or NIH programs. Start date is flexible.

The associate will collect data, communicate with other investigators, write reports and manuscripts, and assist in advising and training of graduate and undergraduate research students.
